Norma Keno Fund

THE NORMA KENO ANIMALS IN CRISIS FUND
Norma Keno, a Mohawk resident who passed away in February of 2001, was a friend to all animals. Norma could be found taking in strays, helping to find animals new homes, and doing whatever it took to keep animals safe and happy. Her family asked that memorials in her name be given to the Herkimer County Humane Society to continue the loving legacy that Norma gave to animals in need.

Not long after an outpouring of memorials started coming to the Shelter, a kitten was brought to us. The kitten was found on a highway by a grandmother and a grandson. They asked if it could be helped. Its leg was mangled and tail broken at the end. It did not look good for the kitten, but a local veterinarian said an operation could be performed to save its life. Unfortunately, the operation would be quite expensive. The Keno family was contacted to see if it would be all right with them to use memorial funds to help this animal. This led the family to establish the Norma Keno Animals in Crisis Fund to help give a second chance to animals like Lacy (the kitten).

Since that day, many animals have benefited from the Norma Keno Fund. The help has varied from a dog hit by a car that had to have his leg amputated, to an older dog that needed to have dental work done to enable it to chew food. All of the animals helped have been adopted. It is such a rewarding feeling for the Keno family and the Herkimer County Humane Society to know that these animals have had the care and love that they deserve. It is exactly what the Keno family envisioned and they have helped further by encouraging support of this fund. If you are interested in donating to this worthwhile fund, a donation can be sent to the Shelter.
